The Venerables"The Venerables". The criteria for joining the group was that a person needed to be at least 70 years of age. “The Venerable Club” was begun by hotelier Seth C. Hooker. The first meeting was held in June, 1902 and the group continued to meet on a yearly basis for about 20 years. The picture, we think, is of the 1903 gathering.

Asa and Seth Jillson's 1826 cotton mill Asa and Seth Jillson's 1826 cotton mill can be seen in this 1916 photograph. It stood almost opposite to the entrance to Jackson Street. The entrance to the Thread City Crossing is located several feet to the west of where this historic mill was located.

Hotel HookerThe Hotel Hooker opened for business in 1887. It has recently been renamed the Seth Chauncey House, and is being purchased by a New York City based group called Common Ground to provide low cost accommodations.
